Famous Christmas Bowl

BEHOLD! Look upon my creation and bask in its glory. Mashed potatoes, stuffing, a turkey breast, a pork chop, some thick sliced bacon, green bean casserole topped with French's French Fried Onions of course, and cover the whole thing with melted cheese. For a sense of size, that's a 1.4 qt(1.4L) bowl.

I decided to name it my Famous Christmas Bowl after the KFC famous bowls. Which I have never actually had, but I'm assuming that my bowl was much better. And of course you can see a bit of a garbage plate influence here, even though it doesn't share any of the same ingredients, it definitely has a "plate with all that garbage on it" vibe to it.

Total things purchased to create this meal

  1. Betty Crocker Instant Mashed Potatoes
  2. Stovetop Stuffing (I went with the pork style)
  3. Turkey Breast
  4. Pork Chops
  5. Oscar Mayer Thick Sliced Bacon
  6. French's French Fried Onions
  7. Canned Green Beans
  8. Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup
  9. Milk

Making this has taught me at least one thing. I am absolutely terrible at preparing more than one thing at a time. We'll gloss over that part though. I prepared the stuffing and potatoes simply as directed on the box and cooked the meats in a frying pan. But the green beans I went a little off the directions on the package (the directions on the package of French's French Fried Onions is the one I looked at). Instead of putting it in a dish in the oven like you should do with a casserole I just dumped the soup, milk and green beans all into a medium sauce pan on the stove and let it simmer. While it was delicious, it wasn't quite as thick as a proper green bean casserole. Maybe I'll try that next time I make something like this, but I am awfully lazy, so we'll see how that works out.

Once I had everything cooked I simply assembled it into the bowl. I just eyeballed the proportions to get everything I wanted in there without overflowing the bowl. Mashed potatoes, stuffing, turkey breast, pork chop (the two meats side by side in one layer), bacon, green bean casserole topped with french fried onions and then sprinkled cheese on top of everything. Pop it into the oven on broil for just long enough to melt the cheese and it's done and ready to eat. Serves between 1 and 8 depending on whose "nutritional guidelines" you're willing to believe.
